Sleeping Bags

The Big Agnes Whiskey Park 0 Degree Sleeping Bag is an extra-roomy, extra-comfortable bag designed for four-season or cold climate car camping. The Whiskey Park 0 Degree generous cut fits large campers up to 6′ 6″ and a chest size up to 56″ or anyone who just wants some extra room to roll around. In a traditional sleeping system, the bag lies on top of a sleeping pad. In this configuration, many people find themselves rolling off the pad at night. Plus, the insulation on the bottom of the bag is compressed by the sleeper’s weight. Once compressed, the fill loses most of its insulating properties. The Big Agnes System is different, joining the bag and pad together. The pad slides into a sleeve on the bottom side of the bag, supplying insulation to the bottom of the bag while the top 2/3 of the bag is insulated like a traditional sleeping bag. This design provides a secure foundation so you can roll, twist and turn freely during the night without ever rolling off your pad. It also prevents the bag from twisting and engulfing you in an uncomfortable mess. Big Agnes uses this system throughout their entire line of sleeping bags. The Whiskey Park 0 Degree is designed to be used with Big Agnes 25″ wide rectangular sleeping pads. However, other branded pads with the correct dimensions (25″ x 78″) will also work. Once you’ve matched your bag with the appropriate sleeping pad, spending a night in the Whiskey Park 0 Degree is like sleeping in a bed with the mattress under you for comfort and the covers for insulation. A No-draft wedge insulates the connection between the bag and the pad. Insulated with a high-performance, quick-drying Thermolite Quallofil synthetic fill, the Whiskey Park 0 Degree is ideal for wet conditions or humid climates that would hamper the performance of a down-filled bag. An insulated ergonomic hood, a draft tube located along the length of the zipper, and an insulated neck yoke lock in heat and keep out cold air to enhance the warmth and comfort

Geyser, Yellowstone National Park

Already in early October, Yellowstone is covered in snow and starting to shut down in portions for the year.

Yellowstone National Park sits on top of a geothermal hotspot that is thought to have been a massive supervolcano a million years ago. As a result, lots of geysers are found throughout the landscape. Normally they will billow steam, but occasionally they may erupt.

The geyser in the distance is having a fairly spectacular eruption. I am next to the most famous geyser, Old Faithful, whose eruptions are not as spectacular, but instead more frequent and predictable (approximately every 80 minutes, give or take 10 minutes).

Glacier National Park

Writer, editor, and avid outdoorswoman Becky Lomax offers an insider’s perspective on Glacier National Park, where she once worked shredding lettuce in the kitchen so she could hike nearly 300 miles of park trails during her free time. From hiking through multi-color meadows filled with wildflowers to observing the Sperry Glacier, a victim of global warming that will vanish in less than two decades, Lomax knows the best ways to enjoy the park’s one million acres of wilderness. She also includes unique trip strategies for travelers with specific interests and restrictions, including a Wildlife-Watching tour and a whirlwind One Day in Glacier tour. Whether it’s biking up Going-to-the-Sun Road or watching a grizzly forage in huckleberries, Moon Glacier National Park gives travelers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience.
