From the Oats Peak Hike, Montaña de Oro State Park, “Oats Peak – Coon Creek Loop” hike led by docent Norma Wightman. Only Nick Richardson and I (Mike Baird) accompanied Norma, who was training with a 20#+ backpack.

ccnha.org/awn/descrip.html#132 says “Oats Peak – Coon Creek Loop. Climb Oats Peak for spectacular views of ocean and chaparral, and return on the Coon Creek Trail for wildflowers and riparian habitat. Bring lunch and water. Meet at Visitor Center, Montaña de Oro (MdO) State Park. Strenuous. 7 mi., 4.5 hr. (we did it in under four hours, but we also shuttled by car between the terminal Coon Creek parking lot and the starting trailhead at the MdO Ranch House. I drank 60 oz of water, and used two hiking poles (highly recommended on this hike).
